This work is on closeout. I use it a lot (though as a casual read it can be a sedative). I don't mind having paid the list price for it. It certainly has been handy in chasing down some queries on Guppylog. I am sorry to see it going out of print. Clearly the software or perhaps the server or sunspots need some help. In the meantime, the Immediate Help section, the calculator (which I also use in conjunction with other sites, especially the AKA beginner's forum) and a lot of that stuff on the right still works. Last spring several daphnia cultures were set up on our "back forty". They ranged in size from 20 to 40 gallons. A few leaves naturally fell in. They were seeded with aquarium water, green water and snails. In that these were almost all cultures whose water was significantly drawn and the cultures left to freeze over winter, most didn't need to be seeded with daphnia as resting eggs (much like brine shrimp eggs or cysts) hatched. I had the privilage of going "sampling" or collecting with a crowd of NANFA people and a member of the Illinois Natural History Survey last Sunday. We were on one of the many branches of the Vermilion River, which was impressively clean (well, clear anyway). The day started a little gloomy, but was glorious by the time we gingerly hit the water. Met lots of neat fish heads. Romped through hours of fishy conversations and workshops. Also, worked pretty hard. Took some probably awful photos. Spent too much on some gorgeous guppies.
