Female with Cotton Mouth

Well, my cute little female is still alive after 5 days of treatment for what I believe is cotton mouth. She's been able to take in tiny tiny flakes and she's not attempting the brine shrimp. Hopefully she's getting enough nutrition in her. Her mouth does not look as swollen but I'm wondering if it ever goes back to normal.

I don't know what happened between Thursday morning and Thursday night, but she started acting funny. She was having problems breathing and I noticed it looked like she was bleeding internally. Poor thing, I couldn't stand to see her suffering like that, laying on the bottom of the tank and twitching. Boy, that was a difficult decision. Not a great birthday present. Oh well, at least she's not in pain anymore.

Well, my fry are starting to show their true colors. I see yellow and black in most of their tails. They must have gotten it from their father since the mother was aqua and black. Can't wait to see what other colors they'll have. Some are still very small compared to others. But at least they are all surviving. 8)

Or is it me? I've tried from 3 different computers on different occassions and sometimes my entries are not processed after I submit. That's weird.

Well, I think I'm about to lose my male guppy now. I think he may have caught dropsy from one of my balloon molly fry.

I think I figured out my problem. Although I've been doing my routine water changes and gravel siphons and plastic plant cleanings and filter changes, I never really looked inside the filter.

About a week ago I noticed 1 guppy out of about 35 fry (balloon mollies and guppies) had a piece taken out of its tail. I checked all the fry and this one seems to be the only one. Since then, the tail has almost completely healed itself. I can't believe how quickly it has regrown.

It seems that no matter what precautions you take prior to leaving for vacation, surprises (good or bad) always seem to arise.

I do recall stating that after 3 weeks some of my fry were starting to color. Some said that this was a short amount of time. Well, I have 6 fry and only 2 really are showing their colors well. Other than moving older fry to the community tank, I have not done anything different. I guess they've decided to prove me wrong...

I found (at least here in Northern NJ) that my tank seems to look better and my fish act better when I use filtered tap water rather than stuff like AquaSafe or boiling water. What does everyone else do? Any opinions?
