Well tragedy stuck finally, but rather then complaining about it and having a really short blog entry, I figured I would just include it in today's Diary Entry, and make a bigger post out of it. So... where to begin? I guess since my last diary entry would be the perfect place to start.

So I started this week out looking foward to adding a few new tank mates to my 55 gallon cichlid community tank. I was really looking towards adding either a few nice Discus or Parrot cichlid's, but upon re-visiting the local small scale privately owned fish shop, and taking my time browsing the whole store more then a few times over. I had decided that for the look of them, and the very high prices on these said fish. These were not a viable buy for my tank at this time, as much as I would like them, I just couldn't bring myself to spend that much.

None the less I was there to buy a fish or two, and that was what I was going to do. So I continued to browse to get idea's what I wanted. There was many other color variates of cichlid's but none that fit the coloring that I had already owned, and were quite a bit bigger then most of the tank mates.

Finally I decided to get the Green Tiger Barb's as I had never seen them before in a pet store and quite liked how tightly they schooled together. I picked up 4 of them, but do think about returning to pick up another 4 at a later date, just because I really like them. I also left with two Koi Angel's that I had noticed on a earlier occasion and were set apart from the group, obviously paired off.

Upon reaching home and finally getting them into a small tote that I keep as a quarantine tank. I decided, you know what, I still want more cichlids, so i returned to another Pet store, which i visit on weekly basis just to see stock. It was in that store where I picked up another two African Cichlids and added them too my quarantine tank.

Sadly upon reaching home I went downstairs to discover all of my flake fish food dumped into my guppy tank. PANIC! Of course I could not freak out on my 2 and 3 yr old girls, it wasn't their fault that I had left the food out and within their reach. and I could not get mad at the Wife for as much as she loves the fish, she cannot stand the thought of touching the water...

Alas I could only blame myself, and what to do! my tote was already being used, so up I shot to the upstairs and quickly grabbed a ice cream pail, trying frantically to scoop up as much fish and as little food as possible.. but sadely noticing a few dead fish already. we later discovered that the girls had done it in the morning, and I did not discover it till my feeding time later in the evening.

Five full tank water changes, gravel cleans later I transferred half the tank worth of cycled water back into the tank, and left my large water jug to the side for 12 hrs to release chlorine and whatnot I noticed even more fish dying in the bucket. I wasted no more time moving them into the half tank of cycled water and away from any other food bacteria or nitrogen's that may have been killing them.. only 3 other deaths followed that move, but all in all I lost alot

I lost all of my tetra's and ghost catfish, 1 cory cat and half the population of my guppies, including 4/5 of my favorite males, and 3/4 of my favorite females. My future breeding program was almost completely wiped out. Quite the slap in the face. and this the same day that I found a steady buyer of any molly, guppy or angel that I would breed.

While I'm not so interested in the Molly's, I was definitely interested in breeding my guppies, and have been thinking about trying angels out, as a breeder I mean.

I still am not going to give up on my breeding program, I didn't loose any of my 2 week old fry from my breeding program, so I have hopes that they will have their fathers and mothers coloring, because if not, then I only have my 1 male, and 1 female left to try it on. and the male wasn't my favorite of them...

So now with Christmas around the corner I've made up my mind on what I want, 10-20 gallon tanks. I'm almost ready and totally willing to do this.. lets see if the means make them self available to me.

Anyways, Ive probably bored you enough with my chatter... till next diary entry, or if one of you visit the site ever again ;p I know your out their just itch'en to post

< hmmm... Long time..
