My guppy has been acting strangely, ever since I went from gravel to sand in the tank. I removed her and the 2 other guppies from the tank, since they were freaking out when I was scooping out the old gravel. I left the Raphael catfish (3 inch), since he was calmly hiding behind the heater. After installing the sand, I returned the guppies to the tank.

| Since then, I've found 1 guppy dead, caught in an ornament, with her eyes huge and black.
Another guppy has been acting like she has a swim bladder issue. She rests on top of wide-leafed plants, near the top of the tank. She's also rested on the top of the heater. I haven't noticed her eating, and her eyes are big and black. I suspect I injured her swim bladder while moving her. Is there anything I can do to help her recover?
Water stats: Ammonia 0, Nitrites 0, Nitrates 20, unless I've mixed up Nitrates and Nitrites.
On a related question: my other guppy has a white spot on her tail. It looks like there's just no pigmentation there, it's smooth with the rest of the skin. Should I suspect columnaris? She's had it for month or two, and is acting healthily. This is the same guppy that took a flying leap from shoulder height to the ground when I got her at the fish store, so if guppies can lose pigmentation due to injury that's what I'd suspect. |
