About 15 of the 500 guppy and mosquito fish babies are deformed in my 10-gallon tank.

I'm wondering the cause of this because they are in nice water, the mothers weren't stressed, and the water is great. I need help.

The mothers probably weren't stressed but the (none / 0) (#1)

dramatically overcrowded fry are! They may be crowded by, oh..., a factor of 20. Would you happen to have an extra 19 10-gallons or four 50-gallon breeders around? ;)

Crowding causes stress. Stress causes immune systems and even hormonal systems to get messed up. As long-time Freshwater and Marine Aquarium columnist Paul Speice has written (seemingly forever) stress kills! Or, evidently, maims.

Please don't breed the deformed fish, even though their problems may be environmental. In fact, given crowding issues, don't breed anybody. (Easier said than done.) ;)

And as they get larger, the Gambusia will bully the guppies even more. :(

theres 2 deformed guppies and 13 deformed gambusia, ok maybe not 500 that was a little high, i havent hit that peak yet but im about at 300. dont worry i wont breed them, well i was just going to put them all into a 5 gallon and let them do what they want, and not let them get into my guppy strain.
