I received my first purchase of an all-red delta- tailed guppy trio on Thursday. They arrived from CA in good condition, nicely packaged, and lively.
The females are gold-bodied and approx 2-3 weeks pregnant. The male has a nice flowing dorsal fin and a well shaped delta tail.
I placed the two females together in a Q-tank and put the male in a separate tank. The females' tank has a few live plants as I can not be certain when they will drop their little ones.
I was very concerned about the male as he spent all of his time racing from one end of his tank to the other on the side closest to the females' tank. On Friday morning when I turned on the lights he was perfectly vertical in his tank and I figured "nuts, there goes my money." My daughter suggested he was lonely. Well, who knows?
I took a couple of young females out of my grow-out tank thinking that if they died because of some disease he carried with him I could afford their loss. (I have gotten out of the idea that each fish is my personal buddy--finally).
180 degree turn-around in his behavior! He immediately swam to the bigger of the two females and has stuck to her like glue. She doesn't seem to mind and if the two are separated she will swim back to him. Oh, joy, joy!
Everyone seems happy and healthy this morning so I have breathed a sigh of relief. Most likely premature but I can hope.
Now--where am I going to put those Green Moscows I want from the same breeder???? Where to put more tanks???
