Neon...Guppies?

Guppies
By Syhrus, Section Diaries

I'm starting to see strange blue strips down the sides of some of the new fry that look a lot like the ones Neon Tetras (Paracheirodon innesi) have down their sides.
Has anyone else seen this before? should I be worried?

I bought a female Guppy from a pet shop about six months ago, and discarded the fry she originally had, but two months ago she had fry from the only male in my tank (God rest his soul).
The fry grew and many showed the red tails of their father (God rest his soul), but recently, some have started to develop bright blue strips down their sides (neither of the parents were blue at all).
Now, these strips are quite pretty, but I was still worried seeing as none of the parents had these mysterious strips so I searched through my aquarium book until I found Neon Tetras (Paracheirodon innesi) have a similar stripe (yes I got a little side tracked from aquatic diseases).
Could this be a coincidence, or have I stumbled across something new here... the Neon Guppy perhaps?

It's completely possible that they're showing traits from one of their ancestors. To have more than one with the mystery stripe means that the maybe a grandparent or guppy closer in the line had it. All fish and animals have dormant and active genes.

I got some photos of my guppies! (none / 0) (#6)

but I don't know any site where I can post them... any suggestions?

Ah! I almost didn't see your post. Please follow (none / 0) (#8)

other comments down the page. It is a small thing and not the end of the world if we don't, but it puts comments in chronological order and makes reading the discussion(s) a little easier. :)

The obvious exception is if one is answering a question, follow it, where ever it is.

If you get your Internet service from someone like AT&T-Yahoo, you might just use Yahoo photos or whatever their associated photo storage service is. You've probably already paid for that anyway. ;)

Some other places photos may be stored include
http://www.fototime.com/
http://www.webshots.com/
http://www.picturetrail.com/
http://www.shutterfly.com/learn/member_ben.jsp
http://photobucket.com/

If you Google free photo storage you will get a zillion more sites.

Here's a couple more tips. http://www.ibdguy.com/posting.shtml
Google will have many more such sites.

Several of those with images in Immediate Help have used http://www.imagestation.com   though a as with the others (usually free) membership is required to post and view the images.

Then you come back here and paste the URL in. Also, please remember to change Plain Text in the box below to Auto Format. That will enable the link and everyone will be able to just click on it.

I am sure that there are many others, who look in on Guppylog once and a while, who are more experienced at this than I am. If you have any trouble working through one of those sites I hope someone else will chime in.

Thank you for taking the trouble to photograph you guppies. I'm looking forward to viewing them.

All the best!

I think that that's really cool that they have blue stripes down there sides. They must be very pretty. It's probably just from guppy farther back in the blood line that she mated with at the store or something. Good luck!   guppyfreak456

It is interesting when something new pops up (none / 0) (#1)

in a guppy. That is part of the mystique in keeping guppies.

Some awfully pretty blues have been found in guppies. Go to Google, click on image search and search for blue neon guppy or neon guppy or even blue glass guppy. After a little bit other blue critters and multicolor (3-color) guppies began showing up. This is because Google tends to select all of the images from an article about something. So if a neon guppy was in an article, everything else may show up.

There is another image search service which just give you what you ask for. And I'm really sorry that I can't think of what it is. :(

This is an albino but has the blue line you mentioned: http://www.imac.hu/~chris/guppy/images/BlueNeon-RDT-1.jpg

Were any of the genuinely blue guppies a bit like yours?

Thanks

Yeah mine is kind of like tat one, except that mine has blue below the lateral line and more towards the front of the fish, with a nice red tail.:)

Yeah that second one looks more like it... except mine have more of a stripe than a patch :)
