UPDATE ON MY GUPPIES!

Howdy yawl! I have some good news:) and some not so good news:(

As some of you know Glory finished giving birth to healthy babies after almost two weeks of labor! After she gave birth she seemed quite happy! But she was soon striking with cloud eye, fin rot, and cotton mouth:( (just goes to show that you can't skip ONE water change)

I also had another female with cloud eye and cotton mouth and two males with fin rot. Sadly Glory and the other two males passed away as soon as they started to improve.

Of what Glory died of I probably will never know cause like I said she was healing as for the males they died of fin rot. RIP. As for the other female (Flashes) she has healed completely:)

The fry have grown remarkable and have started to develop color at 3 weeks old! (I think? Ha ha) I can tell the males from the females and what is strange is that it is the females that have developed the most color, I am assuming that It is because Glory was extremely colorful. (Is It true that very colorful females don't produce very colorful males?)

My 10 gal. Is way over populated because Stormy (female) gave birth to a bunch of little tikes and the older guppies wont eat them (not that I want them to or anything ;) Oh and I have two extremely pregnant females!

I have been looking for another 10 gal. possibly bigger. (does any one have a tank that I can buy from them?)

My guppies currently don't diseases or parasites right know (knock on wood:)

(Answer for uncle) The reason I wanted to rinse the plants was because they were kinda dirty and the water was not rinsing them off but the problem is over now and I never want it to come back!!!

    QUESTIONS:
        Is It true that very colorful females don't produce very colorful males?
        What is the best stuff to clean the tank ,gravel and plastic plants?
        Does any one have a tank I can possibly buy?

Whether a female produces colorfull males and females all depends on genetics(for the most part). Well ovisuly when a baby of anything is born (as long as it isn't born pregnant like some bugs and worms) it is half of it's father and half of its mother. Sometimes the babies getts more of daddies traits sometimes more of mommies. Sometimes a evenish mix. I don't think it is possible for a baby to have exacty half of mom and dads traits aka genes. But I could be wrong. Anyway that being said just because the female was colorful doesn't mean that all the females will be. You have to consider the males geans if his mother and grandma etc. if they had the colorfull geans. Then you have to look at the females side of the family. Your color female could have a ressive trait in her family (color) and her families dominant trait is not a lot of color. For example if a male rotwilier and a female dalmation have puppies some will be rots some will be dalmations some will be a mix. Now lets say that one of the rots bred with a pure breed rot. But a few of the puppies came out dalmation. That is because that rot had the dalmation genes in him. Even though he looks like a normal rot he still carries the dalmation genes. A gene that is not shown in an idividual, but he/she carries it that is what a ressive trait is. And the showing trait is the dominant. Got that so far? It's comes easy to me, but not to all. I have studied genes or genetics and is can be a confusing subject. That's just scratching the surface though. Hope I didn't confuse you, but I got to go. Try and study up more on genetics. ;) So bottom line if you have no way of finding out the males and female genes just wait and see. :) Sometimes I like to breed different varaeties just to see what will come out. Like a red snakeskin and a h/b green. It's fun for me anyway.

QUESTIONS:
What is the best stuff to clean the tank ,gravel and plastic plants?
Does any one have a tank I can possibly buy?
Can females have a snakeskin pattern?

are going out of business and selling tanks at half price. Perhaps a bit of a drive?

A lot of that genetics stuff has to do with which genes will be dominant or whether incomplete dominance will be the case.

A little elbow grease and a paper towel will usually clean a tank, So will a soap-less, plastic pot scrubber. Use paper towel and baking soda on a tank top. Gravel vacuum the gravel. For plants, I too have had to hand pick algae. (Sigh)

Plastic plants can be bleached. 1 part bleach to 10 or 20 parts water. That will clean them (in a bucket, outside in a shaded area) of everything. BUT make sure that they have been properly rinsed and then dechlorinated. Improperly dechlorinated stuff will leave a lethal wave of bleach in an aquarium otherwise!

Sorry about the losses. But you seem to be catching on to this care stuff. Congratulations on all the survivors!

Keep one of your new tanks for quarantine, hospital use. It is sooooo easy for me to spend other people's money. ;)
