It's been a while since I wrote anything so here's my recent happenings and some pics for those I said I'd get pics for.

Man are fish hard to photograph.
Anyway here are the clickables to look at some of my fish. The first ones here are the "silver bullet" dudes http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/1678/fishy1wv4.jpg Very pretty little fish in my opinion.

The next pic is my little red and white dude. I call him Red Rover because he's all over the tank. Plus he's red. Red is in the bottom left corner the other big fish is my male swordtail Sammy and then a couple more gupps. http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/9301/redroverwg2.jpg
And here's Red and the "silver bullets" with Princess Pat in the background http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/6220/redroverandsilverbulletyn8.jpg
Here's Sammy Swordtail and a couple of his fishy friends. http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/7046/sammyswordtailqb1.jpg
And here is a corner view of The Beast. My 75 gallon tank. http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/5690/thebeastfc5.jpg

And here is a 2 minute video of my tank. Mostly of my silver bullets and the search for them. Please ignore the voice commenting on what you are viewing. That's just me. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3386223707372249987

Any questions feel free to ask.

This is just in my Beast tank. I still have 2 10 gallon tanks currently full of female guppies. One contains my pregnant Mommas (8 of them) and the other is way over crowded with about 30 2-4 month old female guppies (guaranteed virgins if anyone wants them. Just pay shipping. To contact me just make the e-mail address in my replies look like a normal address and your set.)

The two 10 gallon tanks get every-other-day 2 gallon water changes and the Beast gets 25% (15 gallon) water changes every 3-4 days.

Well That's about it for my fish. No one has died in a few months and no new additions, except fry, since the swordtails and mollies at least 2 months ago. My tanks pretty much run themselves.

For anyone having trouble getting tanks up and running the only thing that I can suggest is e-o-d water changes and time. I started my first tank over a year ago and without finding this site I'd have given up a long time ago. But well running tanks are definately things of beauty.

I have been doing babysitting for my neighbors and fishtanks are almost better at entertaining children than the TV is. My now 10 year old daughter is becoming useful in tending the siphon and bucket while I multi task during water changes. If I can only get her to remember that when the bucket gets full you remove the end of the siphon from the tank and not pull the other end from the bucket of water before stopping the flow of water. And my 4 year old is my official fish namer and fry hunter. Oh and the one who's finger prints I have to constantly wipe off the front of all of my tanks.

Well It's getting later here tonight and my Hubby is getting the kids all riled up so I need to get them off to bed. Enjoy the pictures and video. And have a great day/evening Y'all......

Re: Fishies and new tail style name (none / 0) (#6)

I found it.... it is not quite the same as your fish, since the top flag which extends from the caudal is rounded and yours appear to be rectangular, but the genes that cause it are probably similar... the tail style that is being developed is called "rondel" because that flag is rounded.... my remembery is getting worse, you'd think I'd have remembered that about the different shape.... getting old is the pits, but it sure beats the alternative! Thanks for the info. Do you by any chance have the link or do I have to search for myself ;)

Well my kids are bugging to go to the carnival in town this weekend so I think we're gonna go soon.

See y'all later.

woke at 3 this morning so had plenty of time to try to load the video and the other photos. Redrover looks to me like he is blonde/red... but photos are notorious for giving wrong impressions, and with fish especially the lighting is everything. if you breed him to a blonde or grey female you should get some plain blondes which are great for crossing your more interesting colors on. You have 2 males which seem to have an extra flag of tail above the main caudal... like a topsword but with a blunt end instead of a pointed one. this has been given a name and is being developed by breeders now, I'll see if I can find the note in cyberspace somewhere so I can tell you the name of the tail style... how do you keep that anachris going? It looks great! methemom

how do you keep that anachris going? It looks great!.... It's PLASTIC. All my plants are fake. Some plastic and some silk. I don't have the lighting to handle real ones. :)

Thanks for the tip on the "special" males and on Red rover. I have a couple of young females that aren't showing any coloring in their tail fins yet. Maybe they won't get any. They right now look like perfect plain guppies. But they have fooled me before.

hard to tell, but it looks like your silver bullets have loads of green in them, too... mine were much more blue, except for one almost solid turquoise one... but otherwise very much the same. I think these males are homozygous for the metal gene when they are so metallic. I have learned the female homozygotes are dull greyish with grey fins and tail, but they pass on that metal gene! Redrover is interesting. Is his body really a true white, or is he more blonde and is his skin a bit transparent? I'd love to know more about his genetics. Were there matching guppy females where you bought them, and what did those look like? I am going to try to get the larger photos to load so I can get a better look at him, but will have to have an hour or two since I can only get evil slow dial up service out here in the boondocks... jealous of your BEAST tank, some day I'll have one too, she says with green eyes flashing.... methemom

Yes my silvers seem to have a green sheen to them. Almost like a metallic overlay. As for the females being dull but passing on the metallic genes, one of my original females was the dull grey with grey fins and tail. She's since passed on but I think these little ones might have been her's.
As for Red rover he really looks white. Also he doesn't look transparent like most guppies. As for the matching females I think there were some. Now this was a Walmart where all guppies, male and female, go into the same tank. I'm hoping I can find a very plain female in my brood of fry that I can breed him to and get his genetics. Most of my females are either half-blacks or have bright blue or yellow tails. But I do have a few youngsters that aren't showing any color yet. Deffinately females tho because of small gravid spots (never been with males with gonopodiums tho ;).

Sorry about the big pictures. Would they load faster if I were to e-mail you a copy of the picture? The best pic of Red is the first one. It shows him in all his glory ;). How's the video working for you. If you want I can get one of just him so you can see him if it loads any better?

Have a good evening.

Sorry about the small picture size. Here are the same links but with a larger result.

Hey Unc is there any way I can go in and edit my original? Or is there special moderator powers that are needed? I think next time I'll just put the pics up. But I wanted to be kind to those with slow connections. Also my connection isn't that fast and my computer is old so I have to be nice to it. A link loads and sends alot quicker than a picture does.

I've e-mailed NGM off list and hopefully we can (none / 0) (#2)

I don't like doing that, but those are spam with some sometimes nasty links which I've been eager to disable. If someone finds one after a couple of weeks, e-mail me off list and I'll get it.

I wish I knew how to ban/ throw out the dozen or so clowns who are doing this stuff. Quite by accident I noticed that one of them is scoring my comments at the lowest level. What a poor sport. ;)

All the best to the rest of you! :)
