any of you know about it?it looks like a really interesting design.

the filter is IN the hood. how cool is that?and it's got a 3 part filtration system. sounds like a genious plot to me. it saves space and you can get them at walmart and petsmart. also petco but the prices on their website are about twice of that at walmart, although they have the most varied sizes of them.

the largest size i have seen is a 12 gallon. i'm looking for a tank that i can set up in school. don't ask. long story. much hand cramps. anyway an eclipse sounds cool so if any of you have any info its very appreciated.

one question. if the filter is in the HOOD, how does that water reach the filter??? thanks everyone.

I've never liked the Eclipse aquariums.  With the filter being in the hood, there's no wiggle room for adding or subtracting things....

If it doesn't say "AllGlass" on it, I don't buy it. I've had friends with tanks from other manufacturers that have exploded, and the only tanks I've ever had leak were non-AllGlass.

To Scott's point though AGA tanks are called that because they are, in fact, all glass. The Eclipse series are okay if A) you're not planning on stocking close to what you would for a standard tank of that size because the filtration is just adequate, not even slightly overkill. B) You don't mind the extra care one has to take with acrylic tanks. Acrylic scratches a ton easier than glass, almost too easily IMHO... you'll probably get some scratches just adding gravel.

In terms of how they hold water they're closer to seamless then any glass aquarium, so leaking isn't really a consideration... but honestly, as much as I love Marineland's filters, I skipped this package when selecting my newest aquarium.

yeah,  ALL GLASS aquarium does sort of cover the whole "i wonder what its made of" question. i do have a bit of experience with the acrylic tanks and their care. my 5 gal and 1 gal are both acrylic. i can get the gravel in ok, but the problem with those is my cat. she loves to sit on top of the aquariums, but is a little clumsy so sometimes she slides off when she tries to jump on top. there are a couple scratches on the sde of the 5 gal form her trying to catch herself as she slid(down a smooth surface. not very bright, that kitty of mine).

so you're saying that if i were to get one of the 12 gallon eclipses, there's no way i'd be able to stock it with 12 inches of fish? i thought the filtration looked really cool/effective. its supposed to have like, a 3 part system but i really don't remember and i'd have to re-look that.

i was looking into them because i was hoping, this year, i could setup a tropical tank in this teacher's class. she and i sort of became freinds last year. she was my life science teacher. i sort of saved the betta her mom got her for her birthday. it was in one of the dreaded betta vases, that came with the ludicrous directions. so we moved him into a 5 gal in her classroom. he's now in a 5 gal. in my room. sometime during the first week of school, he'll be moved back to his old tank. ANYWAY, i was hoping to set up a tropical tank with a platy trio this year. no, i haven't checked it out with her, but i was just looking at tank prices when i came across the eclipses.

i think it would be a great experience for her class to have the breeding and development of the babies take place in the classroom, although care for them and the betta will be harder this year, because i'm not in her class and will have to take time after school for maintenance and stuff.

AllGlass is also the logo of an aquarium making (none / 0) (#5)

company out of Milwaukee. http://www.all-glass.com/

I didn't understand whether Scott was referring to the company or type of aquarium. There are several other companies who make fine aquariums. There used to be a few odd-ball tanks sold very inexpensively, but we did discover that it was a bit of a gamble using them. Overall quality seems to be better now.

AllGlass sells to independent shops and has supplied local clubs with tanks for shows. (You've never lived until you have driven down an Interstate with 150 2.5-gallon tanks stuffed in a little Colt Wagon with you. And I got them from the gentleman who picked them up from All Glass in a even smaller Ford Pinto! I think my buddie was very concerned about hitting bumps.)

I'm guessing that, owning to weight and shipping costs, aquarium manufacturers are still somewhat regional.

If I'm wrong about either the aquarium making industry or Scott's interpretation of all glass, please set me on the straight and narrow. :)

atb!

yeah. i think my 29 gal. may be from all-glass. my 10 gallon isn't though and it's never given me any trouble.

I'm pretty sure Scott was referring to the name brand :)
