I got a reply from hagen about my "submersible" heater.

"Thank you for taking the time to contact us.  To be C.S.A. approved in Canada we have to specify a waterline, but the unit is completely submersible.  To ensure even heat distribution place heater vertically.  We trust that this is satisfactory."

So that's good to know!

Cheers!

Great! I have used submeribles by that company, (none / 0) (#1)

but not that model. That is a curious rule. I'm assuming that heater can be extended out of the water then? That is not what the are intended for though.

Still this is one of those cases where it is certainly best to follow manufacturers' instructions. If not, one wonders if the Canadian regulators might potentially be responsible for house fires and possible loss of life. :(

All the best!
Scott

I feel bad because I should have remembered that wraith. I've heard about it before somewhere. Mind you you'd have still needed confirmation from Hagen anyway before dunking it fully below.

no worries! I'm glad to have heard it from the horses mouth anyways. This way if anything goes wrong I have it on paper to! haha!
And now I am wondering unc if you've got something there? What does it do to a submersible to not be fully submersed if that's what they were made for?
