I have a Hagen "Elite" submersible heater.

I was all ready to sink it, and part of the cord into my tank thinking that that was what "submersible" meant, but then I noticed that it had a max water line on it? Is that just there because it's on every heater? Can I actually sink this or not? I am a little confused by this as you can tell!!

Here is a pic of what I have,

Anyone else use this kind of heater and submerse it? I was under the impression that even the cord could go in....could be wrong.

cheers!

< well, i'm wondering about this new order... | Feeding problems...........I think.....maybe........is it normal? >

you have a submersible there, (none / 0) (#1)

but not a full submersible. i use the exact same type, although not by hagen.

the heater hangs vertically in the aqurium, usually by suction cups or some type of holder. as far as i know, if the awauarium is glass, having the heater touch it shouldn't be a problem. but don't take my word for it. thats just what the LPS guy said 3 years ago, and he misled me on many things anyway. i do know for sure that if your aquarium is acrylic and the heater touches the side, the acrylic will melt.

so, if you can find a way to hang it, keep it hanging vertically on the side, submersed up to the water line.

hope that was helpful for you!

thanks,
kind of helps. Still confused, why the &%## would they call it a submersible if it's not!!! haha! Stinking heater people!
I was kind of hoping that they just used the same tube parts for all their heaters and it was a "typo" of sorts! haha! Guess I'll have to go get another one because this one doesn't stay in place, because the top is rounded I guess, it doesn't sit against the lip of the tank well at all.
And my tanks are all glass.

thanks!

If it says it's submersible then it should darn well be submersible, FULLY submersible! I have several different sorts of heaters here and all seem to be fully submersible although I'm not sure about the Blutherm one. The sera and Toto are definitely fully underwater ones and I have another little cutey as well that I can take a look at the brand if anyone wants to know.

The main beauty of the fully submersible ones is that you can have them horizontally low down in the tank and then you don't have to turn them off when doing water changes.

That was part of the draw for me! I can change water without turning it off, I can tuck it away behind some plants near the bottom, seemed like a great idea!
I emailed Hagen as well last week asking them about it, no response yet...
I wonder how i could test this without killing myself or any of my fish!

cheers!
