sick cory, possibly tb?

My cory catfish has overnight developed a large red patch on one side of him.

It looks like he is bleeding internally. It is not protruding, just red under the skin. He also has raised scales.
I have looked through IH, and the only thing that seems to stand out that this could possibly be is fish TB. I'm hoping I'm wrong.
He spends most of his time on his side breathing rapidly now. I am seriously considering just euthanizing him because I can't imagine he's not in pain.
Are there any other diseases this could be? I have him quarantined floating in a jar inside one of my larger tanks.
The other question is will my guppies now all suffer the same fate? How contageous is this disease?

Cheers

I am sorry about your cory... that's an arena I know nothing about, but I was kinda wondering....

Has anyone actually had a diagnosed case of fish TB around here, that anyone knows of?  I keep hearing about it, and the thought of it scares me to death, but it always seems to turn out to be something else...

Fish TB is a bacterial thing. I would look at the (none / 0) (#1)

regular bacterial problems, including fin and tailrot first. Can you isolate that Cory? Do the frequent partial water changes if you can -20% - 25%-30%-35% and so on up to 40 or 45%

If you have a broad spectrum antibiotic, try it. Mycobacterium (fish TB) will not respond to that but the other bacterial problems may...

All the best!

I have a 10g I could set up for him, but I am afraid he may be to far gone.
He is isolated right now in a floating jar, not the best hospital I know, but I wanted to get him out of my tank quick. If he is still here tomorrow I will get him in there and start medicating. It is almost midnight here and I am knackered, and fear that starting a tank set up now would wake my 2 sleeping babies. :(

Thanks so much,

cheers!

I know the feeling at this hour. Sorry about (none / 0) (#3)

the condition of the Cory. You may be correct as to euthaniasia. You are trying to do the best for the Cory.

Good luck!

well I woke this morning and he didn't make it through the night. I have no way of knowing what actually killed him, maybe TB, maybe something else. I don't know enough about what to look for, if film was on him previous to death and I missed it or not etc.
So I will just watch my guppies in that tank for signs of sickness, and hope for the best, of course! ha!
thanks all =)

cheers
