Looking at the wonderful photos on aquabid is about to drive me mad.

I keep seeing all these gorgeous fish, and I'm starting to want them really bad. It is very frustrating.

The guppies are hard to resist, but the bettas are even harder.

I have a weakness for those big fins (not a plakat fan, really)and spunky personalities.

I saw one yesterday that literally had me staring at the screen in open mouth awe. I would have bought it, if it weren't for having to pay to ship it from Thailand.

I have a little bit of resistance now, because I'm down to about $50 until my next payday, but after monday, I don't think anything will be able to stop me.

It is a combination of wanting great fish, straight from the breeder, and the excitement of receiving a fish in the mail.

I think next week I may order some cheaper, bottom feeder type fish (cories and such), to see how the shipping thing works. Then after that, I may order A nice betta, or a pair of nice guppies. Because, as I've said before, I'm crazy and I have no control.

No control + a 29 gallon tank in need of occupants, is a bad combination.

A very bad combination.

Ah yes! Fishy lust! (none / 0) (#1)
by unclescott on Fri Jun 02, 2006 at 08:41:01 AM PST

Once wrote a review of what it was like for a newbie to visit an AKA national convention for their publication. Went to bed Saturday night with visions of the 400+ pairs of killies, which would be available in the Sunday auction" dancing in my head". Talk about a bag in the hand! (Actually too many bags in the hand.)

There were fish I had only read about. There were a bunch we hadn't even heard of before! I think I concluded that little blurb with, "Ah Opportunity! Ah lust!"

After a couple of hours Saturday evening of counting killies, I finally dozed off. ;)

Later, spoke at an IFGA national in Chicagoland (probably on "Our Friend The Daphnia") and was just rocked by the beauty of the entries, some of which were to be auctioned. (I think I needed oxygen.) It may have been a good thing that I had to leave to help auction at another show in Milwaukee before I could leave a blank check with the guppy auction registration people.

ATB!

So there is something to be said for having disease that has never completely cleared away. I can't buy anything until all signs of disease have been gone a minimum of 6 months here or until everything dies. Well that's my own rule. It's hard, especially when I have a spare 120 litre tank sitting there but it's not worth the risk of cross contamination.

LOL! I thought you were referring the keeping fish. ;) I've known a number of people in a couple of specialties who kept fish and because of "life stuff" (marriage, divorce, grad school, moving, a new career, children, building a new house, ad infinitum) put their tank(s) away or sold them or gave them away.

Some years later they were back. Sort of like malaria, but more benign, it gets in the blood. ;)

All the best!

You guys are so lucky, you can actually afford to buy fish off the internet and are allowed to! I get $5 every week and a half, thats enough to buy ONE cory here! I only have 3 guppies and 1 oto. At least there happy!
