"tank swapping," right after this note, hunting down a few mossies in the outside Daphnia cultures, breaking down most of the indoor Daphnia cultures because they aren't needed at the moment, milking the cows, sopping the hogs, feeding the chickens, listening to the White Sox game while all that is going on, yada-yada-yada...
I think you get the observant hobbyist of the month or at least the Observant Hobbyist of Early May Award. Your 10-gallon tank is still over-crowded, but the switch is a great idea. I'll bet the females weigh/ mass at least double what the males do, so the 29-gallon tank is supporting a lot more guppy, in that sense.
You seem to have gotten away with it, so no whistle, no foul. But I wouldn't feed guppies or other fish just before a move.
This afternoon I will not feed the tank of fish scheduled for relocation. I'm concerned that by the time I get them acclimated to their new tank (the old one has been set up for 4-5 years and undoubtedly has a rather exotic chemistry), they may have regurgitated lunch. That can be stressful and even help dirty the water in their new home.
After they have made themselves comfy in their new quarters, I will leave them a treat. After (my dinner) there will be some live food put in there. Specifically (because it is coming out of our ears, what a wonderful dilemma) Daphnia, sorted to size, will squirted in there. I may also leave a few rinsed blackworms in a "worm-jar" for them to browse on.
They will be cheerfully courting tomorrow morning. :)
All the best!
