As I sit here typing one of my females is giving birth...how incredible to watch! I have tried to capture it on video with my camera, will check that out later.

As a mom of a 1 and a 2.5 year old who are napping, *common sense* says "go shower and get ready for your day while they sleep!", but *no sense* can't let me peel my eyes off my little fish! ha!
There is somehow a sense of accomplishment for me with all this. I no longer have any of the guppies I originally purchased in this tank, they are all the babes of those guppies. As some of you may remember I had a battle with camallanus that I lost a fair wack of fish to.
So to have come out of it with some fish intact, and now they are reproducing, feels somehow gratifying.
She has had about half a dozen so far, not bad for her first drop. She is not a very large fish. I think she is almost done, her gravid spot has become sort of a pinkish color, don't see any more little eyes looking out at me when I press my face on the glass!

So exciting!

congratulations! i have never seen my fish drop either. i hope to someday, though. once i start tracking fertilizations with the male/female separation, i'll have a better chance.

hope all of the fry turn out healthy and the mother unphased!

I've never seen one of my fish do it, but I have seen a random female at walmart give birth. It was pretty cool. :)

Thanks!
I checked out the video. It's a little dark and blurry, but you can see her having one. I would post it but it saved as an avi file and i don't know how to change that. If I can figure it out I'll try again.
Today was a great day in my little fishy world, went and picked up a 50gal hex tank and stand fully loaded, and a 27gal tank fully loaded, all for the best price of all, FREE!!!
So excited! I am going to be scrubbing down tanks tomorrow, testing for leaks, and then finding new homes for them in my house somewhere! I now have 7 tanks....... oy!
Only 3 of them are up and running right now. 2 are in need on new seal, one of those needs a new piece of glass. So soon I will have a small fishy zoo through out my home!

cheers!

If you have windowsXP you can change that file easily. Open Windows Movie maker then in the task pane under Capture video click on import video. Once imported drag the clip to the storyboard or timeline and then click Save to My computer from the Finish menu on the side. Choose where you want to save it and then click Next. In here you can change the settings with the radio buttons. You might want to experiment a bit to get something of a decent quality but smaller.

Cheers

thanks, tried it, but I can't seem to get it. It keeps saving a real player file?? I will try again when a friend of mine who is better at that sort of thing comes by.

On a plus side, 50g hex has no leaks so far! Just filled it all the way out on the deck, hopefully I'll have it up and running by tonight! *squeal*!! This one I think I will see if I can maintain as a freshwater for 6 months, and if I can, I may turn it into a salt water. The filter has been taken apart and is sitting in bleach and water now.

Funny how a free tank can just make your whole month! =)

cheers!!

Your video format must be something to do with RealPlayer which I've heard of but never used.

Glad to hear the tank is holding up. Please do an aweful lot of reading up before deciding to change to a saltwater setup as there is a whole lot to learn that is different to freshwater. Also make sure to read up on sumps/refugiums as they are a very useful tool in a reef aquarium.

on the deck."

Very wise. You would be amazed by how many people test for leaks indoors. Some, of course, do a de facto test in their living rooms. ;)
