i'd really like to cure my fish, elizabeth, of her internal bacterial infection, but i'm worried that it has got hold of her good. i treated her for 2 weeks, and after one day of stopped treatment, she couldn't swallow and shimmied twice in 2-3 hours.

i'm pretty sure the antibiotics are the only thing keeping her alive, as well as the only thing keeping her from overstressing and aborting.i need to save these babies! my teacher already has the 5 gal set up in her room, with everything but heater, which i will get tommorrow. her 4 year old is CONSTANTLY asking, "when the fishies gonna 'rive? Mommy, when is the fishies gonna 'rive?"

so, here's my plan: i have  week's worth of antibiotics, which is actually penicillin in 250 milligram tablets, the dose for a human 1 year old. my mom, who's a surgeon, said that that dose should be about right for a 10 gal. i give my fish one a day. i know it sounds sketchy, but considering that the nearest pet store/fish store is over an hour away, sometimes you have to use what you've got.

anyway, my fish is 2 weeks from delivery, and there is 1 week of meds. if i medicate every other day, she should make it to delivery. after the babies are safe, then i can concentrate on curing her.

i know it sounds stupid, but i'd hate to go up and say, "yeah, mrs.parr, about those fish, well, the mother just died, and i'm pretty sure they went with her."

"mommy, when is the fishies gonna 'rive?"

"oh, sorry, honey, they had to go to the big ceramic bowl in the sky. maybe we'll get some fish next year."

*OR* since tomorrow i'm going to Petsmart, they'll HAVE to have something to medicate her with! jeez, i'm so thick sometimes! i SERIOUSLY just thought of that! its a wonder my fish haven't all saved themselves and jumped out of the tank.

being able to swallow, is she getting more and more hollow? Is she releasing whitish, very thin feces? If so, please check Hexamita.

Wish I could offer more. Sometimes, suggesting just changing more water seems like pretty weak.

ATB!
