    so far so good...

i'm pretty excited for tommorrow. my science teacher, freind and I will be setting up the tank for my babies during advisory. as most of you know (i never shut up about it) my favorite molly is due on the 21st and she (science teacher, AKA Mrs. Parr) will be taking them. i have not heard if she will be able to take them after the schoolyear ends. it all depends if her granmother still has her empty tank. mrs. parr knows her kids would love to have little fishies, especially little fishies that can have littler fishies. ;)

i'm still treating my tank for my male's fungus. it looks like it's gone, but i don't want to stop meds too early. today they look lively and happy, not to mention they ate at the top of the tank today, instead of letting the food sink first. they are also grazing more, and Barnabe is leaving Elizabeth alone more. they are cute. they are also the only ones in my 10 gal right now.

i'm a little sad that i'll only have the babies for a week before they move out. they grow up so fast!

also, check out my poll. *points to poll*

Can you just clarify what you mean by move out your babies? Do you mean removing them from the mother's tank or moving them from a fry tank to their own or in with adults?

oh, heh heh, sorry.

i meant move them to my school's tank.

update: instead of using the 30 gal, we decided on the little 5-8 gal. its small, but cute, and the babies will only be in there for a little while, until mid june. i don't have to get a heater, my teacher actually has like 4 she forgot about.

sidenote: (oh, yeah Raquel, the MAJORITY voted 2 weeks, YOU'RE the only one who even voted!)

we have a filter and airstone all hooked up and ready to go, and we will add conditioning chemicals tommorrow, along with possibly the heater.

I voted now as well Nancy with that clarification. Even though I'm sure they'd be right to go at one week I voted 2 weeks because it will give them that little bit longer in your good care to get their wheels on. Fry are tougher than we think in my opinion.

Why would you add chemicals to the school tank? (none / 0) (#4)

Why not add water from a healthy tank instead? Keep a few gallons in jugs, treated and seasoning for a week. Then add them gradually.

well, (none / 0) (#5)

we decided earlier on that that would be a bad idea, US. it sounded like what we were going to do at first, but then we realized, how will we get the water there? i live far enough from the school that it would be a hassle to carry jugs of water to the school. thankyou, though, for trying to think of an alternative! we do have 2 weeks before the fry are born, so we decided letting the tank cycle (with seedings from my tank) would be fine, keeping in mind her room is designed to have living things in it. thanks, Uncle Scott!

miskairal: yes, i was thinking that, too. but i think i will add them gradually over the course of a week, so a few are added at 1 week and a few at 2. if you see any holes in this, as there is bound to be, tell me.  ;)

It actually sounds like a good idea as the good bacteria will have more chance to catch up to fish/fry population.

When you add the 2nd lot of fry, watch carefully and you will see the 1st batch of fry "sniffing" the backsides of the newer additions to see who they are and learn them - just like a dog :)
