I have now found a new home for some of my over stocked tanks.  I called and talked to the pet store owner today and she said to bring them in.  I thought that at this time I will just give them to her and see what happens from there.  I didn't want to ask for money when I really don't know to much about them.  I will talk to her and see what she says about later down the road when my babies are bigger.

Now let's see if I can get my tank levels back to where they need to be.  My 29 gal tank is still cloudy.  Today is my water changing day, but I am not going to clean the rocks.  I want to leave some of the stuff down there so it will help with the ammonia problem.  I have a kit on the way for testing.  They say it should be be here by Thursday.

Thanks for reading

it is good that you have handled part of the problem.

now, we have to deal with the rest. this is a 20 gal, right?

if you still have, like, 60 or so fish in there, you may have to...*gulp*....CULL. yes, i've said it. it will be hard and heartbreaking, but it will be necessary. if i were you, i would take the 15 i wanted for breeding, twice as many females as males, and, err, peacefully freeze the rest.

freezing is the humanest way to euthanize. you can also use ice water, but i think it would be easier on the person to put the poor things in a jug of aquarium water, and put it in the freezer. then, the next day, you can take the jug and throw it away.with ice water you would have to watch them. i know i would. then you would have to pur the dead fishes and the water down the toilet and pull the handle. maybe you could do a combo? ice water in a jug, fish in jug, jug in freezer. next day, jug in trash.

i really hope you have an alternative, or less than 60 fish. maybe there is someone else who could take a few?

Before choosing how to euthanase a fish please see uncle's log in Immediate Help under Euthanasia. Clove oil is probably the best option when cost is taken into consideration.

I have a 29 gal tank and a 10.  What I think I am going to do is take most of them to the pet store.  I think I will keep about 15 females in the 10 gal and maybe about 20-25 males in the 29 gal.  And the only reason that I will keep that many is because I have a few people that want some but are still cycling thier tanks.  I got rid of 12 yeasterday. 6 female and 6 males.  You can see a diff. in the male tank but not in the female.

I really don't want to have to Cull.  I am hoping to rid of them different ways but if I have to then I have to.
Happy fish keeping :-)

well, it is really up to you. no one ever wants to cull. obviously, it is NOT a fun thing. i have only culled a couple times, 2 or three, when a fish was sick or babies were unhealthy. i would put the sicklings down pecefully and do what i could for the 10 or so who were healthy.

I kept 15 females in a 45 litre tank for ages and that tank was the healthiest I have ever had. Those females turned out rather beautiful too and their bodies shone in the morning light.
