Hi,
I guess I'm still kind of new to this guppy stuff.  I'm a college student with a basic knowledge of guppy care.  I have 2 gallon tank with one male and one female guppy in it. I clean the tank once a week and I make sure the water is circulated.  I don't have a heater for the tank but I keep the tank light on all day, and turn it off at night.  This seems to work pretty well.

Recently, my male guppy has just been acting sick.  Sometimes he sits at the bottom of the tank other times he'll just swim aroun. Yesterday I noticed some weird poop coming from him and today it still hasn't gone away.  The poop is long and is thin and white in some places and today I noticed at the top where it comes out the poop is so thick I don't know how he's even getting it out.  It's pretty sick looking.    My female seems to be as healthy as ever.    I have treated the tank with both fungus clear and parasite clear from jungle but my poor mr. Steve just doesn't seem to be getting any better.  Do you have any suggestions for me?

Wow, this went through the queue quickly!

Hi SnowKittin,
That poop can be a sign of hexamita. Here's a link to someone else asking about this a long time ago.

Unclescott gives a remedy.

Also try the google guppylog search and use white poo or stringy. You've got to be imaginative when thinking up the search terms :))

there was also a great link left by someone a while back about fecal disorders. I don't remember where or by whom, but I bookmarked the page.

Good luck with you fish!

Cheers!

Hey wraith! Didn't you recommend that (none / 0) (#8)

site before? I've bookmarked it now. Thanks!

That is a very useful site. I still think that they are suggesting it is Hexamita. Interesting the number of scenarios involving worms though.

I brought a couple of wild killies home yesterday and began a preventative treatment with Gel-Rek's Ultra Cure PX, which includes the two anthelmintics Parziaquantel and Flubenol. It also includes Metronidazole. And it is about the only fish relate item I have ever bought from Petsmart. ;)

Hi,
yes I have mentioned it before because I found it to be a great site for info. But I am not the one who originaly found it, it was Mollylover in the http://www.guppylog.com/story/2005/9/21/10717/5341  post.
I think it would be a good link for IH, good idea miskairal.

cheers!

Yes, that was a great link but I couldn't find it when I answered. I came across it about a half hour later in it's original post but was too lazy to come back to here with it. The stupid part is that I KNEW I had bookmarked it but was searching under my freshwater fish links instead of disease links. I've just found it after bookmarking it again. My brain isn't as organized as my bookmarks :(

I better go add that link direct in Immediate Help I think.

My tank ranges from about 75 degrees in the morning when I turn the light on to about 82 at night when I turn it off.

He could be constipated. Use a google search.

I agree that is probably what the big fat poop is.  But what about the thin long white stuff and his weird behavior?  I hope he's not really sick.  :(

A good laxative for fish is a frozen pea, Pop one in the tank and it might work x]

Goodluck, hope this helps,

MollieGuppy

This fish doesn't need a laxative like brine (none / 0) (#9)

shrimp. It does need to be able to keep something in their system. The peas may be helpful for adding bulk. See Hexamita in Immediate Help.

I wrote a much longer epistle here yesterday. Must not have posted it properly.
