Just a few thoughts about the updates to GL since last I was here.

First off... thank you so very much for...

-getting rid of that blasted blinking link.  I know the reasoning behind it, but it drove me crazy and killed my eyes.

-The Angel ad!  I swear it was some sort of inside joke, but it was just so weirdly incongruous...

I have questions about the logic of putting "Change as much water as often as you can!" in such a prominent spot.  Isn't that sorta counter-productive?  I'm imagining some excited newbie really sticking to it and changing an entire tank's water every day.. in fact, that's one of the many ways I first messed up my first tank, though it was more related to illness and an evil medicine.

I don't know, just a thought.  Its yous guyses board, of course.

I was wondering.. I initially left because I had so much more to say all of a sudden about my bettas than the guppies and felt like I'd be annoying people, but is there anything around the site that I might be able to help with?  Something technical, or maintenance-wise?  I've got near-infinite patience for repetitive things, which I realize not everyone has.  I don't know... just something to keep in mind, oh mysterious powers that be. =P

Hi again lomelindi, long time no see!
Thanks for the feedback and I totally see your point on the water changing bit. Let's see what other's have to say and I will happily change it (feel free to provide something to replace it everyone).

I spent a long time having a dig at Scott about the Angel banner and then one day he told me I could change it so I hopped in and did just that before he changed his mind :) I don't like blinking stuff either but I can fully understand Scott's frustration and why he did it. I've been tempted to make some other things blink round here as well.

I don't know what you could do to help as you need superuser status to be able to do most things and Scott is reluctant to allow any others that because at the moment if something goes wrong with the site he has a fair idea who did it (da unc or myself). A superuser can do great harm and it makes my hands sweaty when I do anything different from the norm in case I stuff up.

However, Scott may allow you Editor status so that you can tidy up some of the junk that gets written. Unclescott does a lot of that now. I tend to leave it alone a little because Australian english seems a little different to American english and I don't think it would be all that good of an idea to correct an American's grammar and spelling and it not being how they were taught.

Another idea is just to go through the Immediate Help and see if there are better posts that could be used for some topics and also if some are similar maybe one could be left out. I did not want the Immediate Help to get too long and put people off.

Thanks for the offer of help.
