i'm so sorry that this doesn't relate to guppies, but i'm afraid i'm desperate.

you see, my preg female molly has developed a white film over her eye, and it doesn't seem swollen. i know it is not pop eye, but i can't figure out what it is. i've looked everywhere.

is this a bacterial thing, or a fungus?

i just started adding antibiotics to the tank for one of my males, he has developed a bacterial skin infection. could these two events be correlated?

I may not be of much help as I'm fairly new to fish but I'd consider the possibility that all your fishies have been exposed to whatever your male is peing treated for. I'd treat everyone. Just to be on the safe side.

Also I don't think any fry would survive at 1 week.

Anyway good luck. I know you get attached to them quite quickly. I am. It hurts when I don't know what's wrong.

thnx for your help, and i guess i'm treating everyone, since i'm just adding the meds to the tank each day (as directed ;D)

at what age would the fry survive?

That I don't know as I could never do that and have never had to yet. I would assume that the closer to full term the greater the chance for survival.

and btw, if she were to die, what would the chances be of saving her fry? i've heard of slitting open a dead female livebearer and saving her fry by extracting them and putting them in a net breeder. does this work? she will be one week preg tommorrow.

i guess it would, i mean, that makes sense.

i'm glad to report that  her eye is clearing up very quickly. just two days ago i noticed it, and with the male's treatment she is doing great. her eye is much lighter today and i expect it to be almost clear tommorrow.

my male is looking a little better, too. he has a ways to go, though. ;)

That is good news. I meant to mention here that you are allowed to ask about your mollies or any other fish for that matter (preferably as a diary as you have done) but you may not get an answer if no one knows.
