Re: lessons in patience (none / 0) (#6)

You sound like me.  I have 6 fry that are about 2 1/2 weeks old and I am always trying to see if I can guess which ones are male and which are female.  And I have my female Sassy who looks to be heavy with fry agian.  If so she is about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks from dropping.

I never thought I would sit in front of my tank and just stare but thats all I do now.  I love to see what they will do next....

good Luck

J-ME
Happy fish keeping :-)

I fiddle with the tanks these days. I can't help myself. I enjoy having my hands in water (in summer at least). Yesterday I was concerned that the heater in the fry tank wasn't working (it had finally got cold enough the night before) so I kept putting my arm in to feel it. It certainly wasn't as cold as the water but it also wasnt' hot. It was fun though as all the babies were nibbling at the hairs on my arms. When they finally lost interest and I paid more attention to what I was doing I realized I had unplugged the heater while doing the water change just prior to this - Whew, plugging it back in made a big difference.

It's autumn here now and I went for what will probably be my last swim for the season yesterday :(

I haven't swum outside since last August!  Our lake is BIG and the swim season sans wetsuit is late June to early Sept MAYBE.

I will never grumble about winter again.

I will never grumble about winter again.

We can swim here from Oct to Feb and often a month each side of that although it's a little chilly. My version of chilly might be different to yours though ;)

It's just now getting warm enough (68F/20C water temp) to be able to skin it here but for a month or so before this you cold get away with a springsuit and no booties. Last time hubby called he said the water in Costa Rica feels like a bathtub. <grumble>
Wish he could bring me back something alive. I did put in a request for some lava rock though. (phrased like that because I want him to take a hammer and chip it off of the edges of a recent flow, but not so close that he gets burned lol)

Even at its warmest our lake only reaches 21 degrees celcius.  I remember last year at the local triathlon the organizers were going to rule 'no wetsuits' if it went over 21 but it never quite made it that high.  And that was in late August.
