My male guppy has gotten very assertive just in the last 24 hours with my female.   They are alone in a tank. He never leaves her alone and I have read a trio is ideal, but I am somewhat daunted by the number of fry that could produce!
I don't want him chasing her to death though as I think she may be pregnant again.  Is it worth getting another fenale?

I have a female (Starburst) and two males (Eel, the spotted and FlameTail, the red) and I altrenate who is with who at one time. I divided it and so is Starburst is stressed the males can be put away for a few days.

Yes.

In fact, the reason that a trio is ideal is because the male can harass the female into ill health, and a second female to chase lets both of them have a break.

It’s GOOD to be the stud guppy. :-D

See! The males always get the best deal on this planet :(

Yes it's better to have a trio but it's also great that you have considered the results that could bring. One solution to that, although it is near impossible for me to do and is sick, is to allow those girls to give birth in that tank and just remove the number of fry you want to keep. That might not work though as I've had females here that don't eat fry.

The best solution in my opinion is to have a tank of males and a tank of females. The females might be less colourful but they are equally as interesting to watch.
