Looks like I have lots of questions!

So....how long can food last before it's bad? I'm wondering if that is why I'm having some sick fish and not many babies live.....it's flake/pellets so I really never thought about expiration date, but I'm starting to wonder. I won't tell you how old it is because I don't want anyone to shoot me.;)

So if I buy a container and open it, how long should it be used up in? How about if part of it is refrigerated?

Thanks
Dawn

Vitamins deteriorate very fast, so it's best to only get what you need for one month (This really depends on how good the flake food you get is though, if it's real good flake food you could add a other month to that). Take only enough flake food for a week and take the rest and place in the freezer.

Great question Dawn!

This topic has come up before but only as an answer or part of a comment on something else.

I generally open a container of flake food and then remove enough for a week or two to another much smaller container and leave the original closed. Air and light affect a lot of vitamins. I must confess that at the moment my purchased container of flake food has been around longer than normal as I don't have as many fish as I used to have. I really should chuck it out and buy some more so thanks for the reminder.

I guess it would be best to buy only as much as you would need in, say, 3 months. Living in Qld, Australia almost everything goes in the fridge anyway ;)

I put old flake food in the compost heap. Do you guys have a garden?
