My sad guppies will not live! I swear I try hard.

About 2 months ago I got a 10-gallon tank and some guppies; a little while later they got Ich and died (all except for 2 small babies). I waited until the babies grew some before getting any more guppies, so when the time was right I got one. A few days later it died, then the buying and dying cycle kept going. I have changed the water, added salt, and everything else I can do for them. Recently I got an  algae eater and one really pretty male guppy( I couldn't resist). The algae eater lived but the guppy died. I took it back and got a new one today. What should I do if this one dies?

did you read the faq? this should be a diary.

did you read immediate help?

did you cycle the tank before adding any fish?

did you test the water regularly before adding any fish?

what kind of "algae eater"?

Sorry that the cycle of death seems to be going (none / 0) (#1)

on. How big is the tank? What temperature is is? What are the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate readings? Has the tank cycled? Are you able to quarantine new fish? Do you acclimate new fish somewhat in the manner of Immediate Help's Acclimating New Fish to a New Aquarium?

Why type of filter, decorations, plants (if any), other aeration is there in your tank? Does the tank have gravel and what kind is it?

What is your water source? How often do you do partial water changes and what do you do to prepare the water for the tank?

On the dead fish, were there any marks? Did their behavior or shape change any when they took sick? Were there any creatures hanging onto those fish or sticking out of them? Was they eating, breathing and evacuating (leaving feces) normally before they expired?

As for the algae eater, are they leaving the fish alone? Please see my first response to "Can't get rid of "aqua bugs!!"

Thanks and all the best!

Hello? Are you out there? :) (none / 0) (#4)
