Fishless cycle?

Hello, I recently (3 Nov) set up a new 10-gal tank. I'm using gravel and artificial plants at the present time.

Because I don't want the frustration I had with my big tank I decided to use the fishless cycling process outlined by Angelhologram (I believe it was).

My tapwater contains 1.0 ppm of ammonia so I filled the tank with straight tapwater, treated with StressCoat for Chlorine and Chloramines.

I have added 5 drops of clear ammonia every day since 3 Nov.

This morning the readings were as follows:

pH 6.6
Ammonia 2.0
Nitrites 0.0
Nitrates 0.0

Is this the way it is supposed to be? I had expected to see increased nitrites by now or am I just getting impatient?

It may take 2 weeks before you start seeing readings for nitrItes. Your other water perameters have some bearing upon the timeframe. I don't know if anyone has done research to compare differences (ie. tanks with higher ph vs lower ph etc.) but higher water temps, around 78, usually speed up the process. Keep us updated please!

I suppose we could do that with female guppies: "Drop 'em out! Drop 'em out! Wayyyyyy out!
