PREGNANT MOLLIES

I have 2 heavily pregnant mollies and a guppy that are all about to pop.  I only have two breeding nets.  I don't like the option of letting them all hide in the tank considering I have some tetras and some angelfish.  I was wondering if I should put the to mollies together in a net or the guppy and a mollie or whatever.  They are about to pop and I'm going over to my friends house for the night and most of the day tomorrow!! HELP PLEASE! WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Probably this is too late a response. But, in shopping for fish, you need to learn about them before purchasing them. It is ok keeping mollies. angels and tetras together, but you should not plan on saving fry if you have just one tank.

When there isn't space or hiding places enough for fry in the real world, they get consumed. That feeds the predators. And the pond/ stream/ lake or even aquarium doesn't get so crowded that a disease breaks out. Diseases are one of "nature's" ways of "solving" over crowding. :(

Moving the very pregnant females may work. It may also kill them. Or they may die from crowding. Or the stress may cause the fry to be stillborn - see guppyrulz's Log.

In a worst case scenario, the females may be so injured, that they can never have fry again. As hard as it is to do this, it may be better to just leave them. A month or three from now, if there is more room then, plan ahead on where you can put your females when they are 2 or 3 weeks past their previous drop. The fry and females will all be a lot healthier.

These are decisions you need to make way ahead of time. That limits the stress you and your fish have to go through.

Hope you have a great visit with your friend anyway. :)

All the best!
