Every time before my fish die they start to go sideways. and act weird.

Every time before my fish die they start to go sideways. I don't understand they just start to swim awkardly to the point they use decorations to hold themselves down then they lay down and peacefuly die. Last time and had 2 platties and a guppie and she was fat but NOT pregnant (Note this even happened with a knife fish and skinny fish so not fatness). It looks like it paralyzes my fish until it just dies. I take good care of my fish. I sadly by them at walmart ONLY because I feel bad for them because when you ask them to help you get a fish they roll their eyes and try to get someone else to do it before they invitebly have to do it.

Thing is that it isn't dropsy and it isn't about size skinny ones do the same. The fish who survived like this the longest looked kind of like a eel. It looked like his backbone was broken the way he was bent. He looked like a U.

It's hard to say what they've died of.  If they had gotten fat and their scales were sticking out, then it sounds like it could be dropsy.  Weekly partial water changes and monthly gravel syphons will help prevent that.  But then again, from what I've seen WalMart does not seem to supply the healthiest fish simply because they do not supply the best caretakers.  Since you're acquiring a larger tank, use that 5 gallon as a quarrantine so that you don't affect the fish you alreay have.

Good luck!
Maggie

I'd talk to the Walmart manager, by the way. Tell her or him that you enjoy abusive relationships with sales personel and that's why you love their pet department. ;)

All the best!
