If you've read my previous diaries you already know that I have suffered a major disaster causing many deaths.  I have lost a pleco, all 4 of my balloon mollies, a golden algae eater whom I had grown to love and also at least 20 guppies (I had lost count a long time ago).  I have 3 separated into a small tank until I have more ice to cull them as they are too far gone to be saved.

As for the rest, there are 7 adult guppies still eating and I believe 5 fry that were in the tank with the pleco that I have transferred over to this community tank.  Plus I have 1 male swordtail that is only taking in small flakes so I may have to quarrantine him and treat him separately since everyone else is doing ok.  It's been a month since I've added carbon to my filter.  I finally broke the filter down again for the umpteenth time and did a gravel syphon and cleaned off all ornaments.  I was amazed to see how many snails I had lost as well.  Some shells turned completely white while others remained the same.  My 2 kuhli loaches seem to be doing ok.  One no longer has the white patches while the other one's has become minimal.

And for those of you who have no idea what the cause of all of this horror?

INSUFFICIENT QUARRANTINE TIME

I was too excited to be adding new friends to my big tank and after 1 week I added 3 new guppies.  Needless to say all 3 have long past along with most of my strains and then some.

Please learn from my mistake.  It will save you a lot of heartache.

I've added this to the QuickLinks/Immedaite help Maggie - might help someone down the track keep their fish safe. It's sure made me know to be extremely careful and not take chances.

I think we all go through the impatience of wanting to add new fish right away.  Although I did quarrantine the new fish it was obviously not long enough.
