"And do you want fries with that?" ;) (none / 0) (#1)

You live in the middle of the state or province with probably more fish clubs than any other state or province in the world! I have actually considered moving to Michigan or Ohio to appreciate that. (There are some pretty neat fish heads in Illinois though.)

I realize that students are seldom independently wealthy. (I worked several college jobs, educational station TVcameraman, library staker, grill scraper and so on for the princely sum of $1 per hour.)

However, take a look at this site:
http://home.neo.rr.com/ohaquariumclubs/
Please understand that many clubs have a Christmas party (unless they work for Target, in that case they have a holiday party) and then they all go their own ways for a month. Shortly that site will have all sorts of info on aquatic events within a half day's drive of you. If you can get free of the land of Whoppers and find someone to share gas, there are a lot of wonderful events to attend.

Last year I assembled a list of clubs and events. It never got transfered to HTML and Guppylog. (Like any ChicagoCub fan, wait until next year!)

My list of site providing fish club information is below. Perhaps it will be of use to you, a Guppylog member or even a lurker.

If anyone has another URL of interest, I would appreciate it if you would send it my way. Last year's 30+ hours of digging around in the Net wasn't very useful to too many people. Maybe this year's list will get published and be a heck of a lot more help to a lot more people.

Thanks and all the best!

Hey unc, I honestly thought there was a link in Immediate Help to a page of yours listing clubs and stuff. Obviously not - I just checked. I'll add this in and anyone can add to it. If you still happen to have a link handy to last year's stuff hand it over and I'll link to that as well.

I must admit I haven't gone near any of the Aussie stuff you've told me about b/c I can't buy any fish until my numbers are down and I know I wouldn't be able to go there and come home empty handed.

I still have the list, all 223 K on Word. Prolly (none / 0) (#3)
by unclescott on Tue Dec 13, 2005 at 07:29:27 AM PST

I should have just submitted the 55K of text file as a log, but got intimidated by something. Somewhere after New Year's, when all the batteries run out, I will update it for '06. Using the general times they have their auctions and shows in 05, approximate dates can be given. Owing to the sometimes crowded schedule of the aquarium scene as a whole, groups have to go with pretty much the same time.

So the AKA national is at Tampa Bay Memorial Day weekend. See www.aka.org

The ACA is in Chicago in July. (7-21 to 7-23) http://www.aca2006.com/

The ALA is in New Jersey, not far from NY city. See APRIL 28-30 EAST HANOVER, NJ RAMADA CONFERENCE CENTER. GO TO www.livebearers.org

NANFA is the only National I know significantly moving their date - from the middle of June to the fall. Cape Girardeau is only 6 hours down the Interstate from here. Hummm.

The IFGA   (Annual Show & Meeting) will be hosted by the Pan Pacific Guppy Association, November 3rd, 4th & 5th  http://www.ifga.org/showrules.htm

More later!

When you do, shoot it to me, and I'll clean it up for easy posting. :-)

I'll try to send as clean a copy as possible (and I can't even spell illiterate). :)
