Wow, I've been gone.  Rar.  My three guppies are growing up and looking great and are healthy and happy and all that.. here's a little update with my guppy and betta cohabitation, as well as general fishy news.

So yes.. as a reminder, I put three very young fry (think just slightly bigger than bitesize for an adult betta) in with a betta a few months ago.. somewhat as an experiment.  Had I known that the guppies would turn out to be the exact same color as the betta, I might have hesitated

But as it turns out, all three guppies and Mr. Betta are getting along amazingly well.  When they were first put together, the betta flared at them a little... but now, they ignore eachother.  The guppies are about half-grown now, the two males showing full colors and the female is huge.. and very pregnant.. babies having babies, aaah!

I'm aware that the two males / one female setup isn't ideal, but they all seem okay with it.  The female isn't unduly harassed.

One male has turned out to be a pure-blooded Endler's, complete with the false lyretail and black and red jellybeans.  The other is a cute little orangey-red shaded fellow, very vivid, with markings I'm still waiting on.

So.. I suppose this experiment is deemed a success.  No nipped fins from the veil-tail betta, and no nipped fins on the colorful boys.. or the girl, for that matter.

And while I'm here, I simply must brag about my new acquisitions.. As of about two weeks ago, I own a breeding pair of these fish.. http://bettatalk.com/crowntail%20opaques.htm
Also, I also own a female that, when bred with the HG male, will produce fish like these... http://bettatalk.com/satin_flame.htm

Excitement!  I'll be breeding them soon. :)

Oh wow, nice bettas lomelindi!

That doesn't really surprise me that your guppies and betta are doing ok together when you introduced them so young.

point about introducing fish to one another when they are young or smaller than they will be. Glad it worked for you.

Once took on a trio of "Cambodian" Betta in response to an emergency. They were plunked into a well planted, well populated community tank. Space proved to be another aid in getting them to peacefully coexist.

The male cruised the front, center stage. The two females hung out in the wings, except at feeding time. Their finage was not perfect, but still was attractive. I was amazed when they began breeding like crazy a month or two later. As in nature, when they were ready, the females sought out the male. :)

That is an interesting Betta site. A lot of work was put into the site and into the Betta photography, not to mention caring for all those Betta strains, breeding them, probably using some sort of stud book to track the Betta breedings and sort the youngsters out.

And we think that sorting out and separating guppies can get involved! ;)

All the best!
