Well.. now-healthy typhoid twins, meet Goering, the -nice- nazi-fish.

So I was out at a far-away petstore the other day.. one I rarely can get to because it's about a half hour away.. but they have a -beautiful- selection of bettas there. They're all, of course, mutts and all... but still, such an amazing variety. None of the "Red or blue?" business there.
And I saw two I wanted.... and just couldn't stop myself from buying them.
This is the photogenic of the two, and the subject of this diary.. Goering. So-named because even though he's a nazi-fish, he's a nice nazi. And he's blonde with blue eyes... though you can't see the blueness of his eyes in this shot.

Now I know, bettas and guppies shouldn't be put in the same tank.. and I am NOT condoning that at all. But I wanted to see if a betta could be conditioned to community tank life, by being privvy to a pair of half-grown (read: No Longer Bitesize) guppy fry growing up. At least one of them is male and will be showing the male colors and tail eventually.
So far, so good. At first, he flared at and chased the babies, and was -TERRFIED- of the pleco, but he seems to be adapting well.
Right now, he follows the babies.. it's pretty cute. Like an in-tank game of follow-the-leader, especially considering the deformed baby follows the other one. He also will just... sit there mid-water and staaare at the pleco in a way that is truely betta.. |
