Hi, some of you know that I have a 29 gal. tank with six male guppies, and two frogs (which may leave the home). I'm thinking of purchasing some platy's to go in the tank, but I would like to make sure if they would live well with the guppies. I've heard that they're great community fish, and non-aggressive. I don't want any breeding to happen at the time, but would they fight for territory if only males lived together? Any info. on platy's is welcome, and please share, if you own platy's, how they do. Thanks!

Don't get them until you get your Ammonia sorted out - your cycle complete though, hey?

After things settle down in your tank, as (none / 0) (#4)

fishboy (and Maggie elsewhere) have mentioned, platys are good companion fish for guppies. If you can get some Val to plant along the tank's sides and back and some hornwort or water sprite to float on the tank top, you should have a lot of platy and guppy fry on the top of the tank in the plants.

Guppy females usually drop their fry at the same time, though a GL observer felt that their female dropped fry at various times. Platys may drop a few fry everyday for a week or so. Colors, unless you have fry of the blue platy, should be different enough to tell them apart even when they are very young.

Except for mollies, I don't know of other popular livebearers or other mid-water swimmers in tropical fish tanks who are as tolerant of fry. Most residents of community tanks will snarf fry down right away.

All the best!

Thanks, that sounds great Fishboy. I'm really excited then. I was hoping that Platys would do well with guppies.
