Hi all, I need a bit more info please about a fish that has a tail problem.

He's 3/4 black and after being away for 2 days I came home to find his tail looked "ratty" on the tip and there was a split in it. there is also a small patch that is white. He had only been shifted to the tank a couple of days prior so the stress may have "triggered" it???

I assumed it was finrot but the only medication I could get contains acriflavine and malachite green - I now have a fluro green tank :-( .

This fish has been 100% healthy and races round the tank with his mates and eats well.

I started treating the tank 2 days ago (after removing the carbon) a single dose and repeat in 3 days according to directions.

His tail may look less ragged but the white patch is still there. After reading everything here about finrot and the deaths, I'm wondering if this is finrot or is it something else?

Also how do you know when you've cured finrot if the tail doesn't grow back anyway?
