I thought I read what the general and carbonate hardness levels should be here on Guppylog but I can't find them now.

Is there a recommended level for each or can anyone point me to the right posts?

I've finally managed to get a test kit for GH and KH but still don't have the ones I need most - Ammonia, nitrite and nitrates.

Why, you may ask? Because I live in a PO Box :-) Despite living only 7.5km from a tiny town, we have no mail service so have to use a PO Box. From what I can gather, most places on the net won't send credit card orders to a Post Office Box ("Under any circuamstances")and our only pet shop doesn't stock the above test kits, only the pH test kits. They are ordering in the ones I want but hey, remember the tank stand? Well I'm not holding my breath. Part of the problem is the cost of getting one off orders to our town - it can add $20-40 (Aus) to the price!!

So today I finally worked up the courage to add 3 half grown guppies to the newest tank and I will just have to hold my breath like I did with tank 2 and be very observant I guess. Wish us luck?

PS I've been stewing about the PO bit for weeks so apologies for being way off topic.

General hardness 100-170 ppm or 6-10 degrees (none / 0) (#1)

hardness should work. I've no experience with KH.

Dd you do the google search [ Guppylog hardness ]? That salt discussion pops up too much, but search beyond it. :)

Thanks uncle scott

My apologies for not replying sooner but I went off in search via Google and got lost reading and forgot to get back and say Thankyou!
