Please, help me.  My guppy who looked pregnant before, doesn't anymore and is suddenly red.  It almost looks like blood streaks on the inside of her entire body.  She has been hiding away and keeping to herself.  My other female who had just had babies, 4 surviving, died recently, but don't know if it was the same cause.  Also, my babies are in one of those plastic breeding things, are they okay in there?

I  don't like to be the bearer but, do yourself a favor and cull that fish in a humane way, like U.S. suggested.  The fish, at this stage, will probably not survive.  It sounds like an internal thing.  Parasites, or bacterial infection.  If it was bacterial, it was probably secondary.  Since you've already lost one, treat the tank after removal.  Sorry I couldn't be more of an optimist on this one :(

sorry to hear this. I have no idea about this red stuff your talking about, but I will tell you about the plastic breeder. Okay I use the plastic breeder but only because I'm cleaning out a different tank for the fry. I have had no problem with them either. Although I only have 5 fry at the moment and usually you'll have more(at least I've heard). So if you can't buy a 5 gallon tank with a sponge filter and heater than for noe it should be fine, but if you start losing fry from it get a 5 gallon and heater for right now!
Hope I helped:) l8r

P.S. good luck with that red stuff, hope you find out what it is!

If you are changing water daily into that (none / 0) (#3)

plastic thing, you will probably get away with keeping your five fry there for a while. Without losing the fry, dump as much of the old water out as you can.

One of the bright, recent GL members drolly christened those fry traps "traps 'o death" though. ;)

From time to time when I run out of room, I use the plastic breeders (I much perfer the nets). What I do to keep the water fresh, is (about 3-4 times a day) I slowly lift the breeder out of the water leaving about 1 inch of water. This draws out all the old water. It also draws out waste which is then taken care of by the tank filter. I then slowly lower the breeder back into the water to allow fresh water to get in. This has to be done very slowly to avoid any fry being sucked into the holes.
