I believe it was guppygirl who suggested leaving (in my case) the fish room soup pot in the oven overnight at 250 degrees. (If it was another GL person's suggestion, my apologies.) The overnight baking seems to have killed off the bad guys in the gravel.

More importantly, it didn't stink up the house and annoy family members. Boiling stuff on top of the stove is both aromatically nasty and can make a mess boiling over. That pot didn't need to be watched.

I didn't do that on a really cold night when the near-by furnace thermostat could be "fooled" into not kicking the heat on as much and keeping the far away portions of the house too cool.

I think it was someone else US, but I don't remember who.

I remember reading about it, but I don't recall being the one to post it.

Hopefully, they will read this and take the credit they deserve.
