Been laying siege to a freight company and various government offices in order to field a shipment of killies from Europe. By the time we got done with import license, inspection fees, handing fees, 12 hour air shipping and, oh yes, the very reasonable cost of the fish, we will take a bath on those fish at auction in a month. Still it was a worthy cause and they will be appreciated.

I have a new appreciation for what hobbyists go through to bring fish into a country. (Heck if we flew somewhere to collect we could have spent $2,000 - $10,000 @ on that adventure too.)  9-11 and the fiscal crisis in government have certainly made government functionaries much more likely to want to closely supervise the process. Right there that increases the cost. The demise and retrenchment by several air carriers also has made it more expensive for amateurs to bring in fish.

The up side: had a chance to visit with several shops and fish heads between visits to offices and while waiting for a delayed international flight from the Netherlands. Also got a great hint on a way to aid the healing of split fins. More on that tomorrow.
