I think I either had a weak molly, although at the time I had only 1 male and 1 other female in the tank with her, or another idea I have is that maybe she spawned abnormal genes to her fry.

| In her first batch (being in my tank that is) she had 1 fry that I noticed as he grew has a crooked tail. "Bubby" is still alive, I didn't have the heart to do what probably most would have done, and he has a hard time swimming sometimes but he's still eating and growing and it's been about 6 months now at least. In her last batch of fry, as she passed while I was on vacation back in December (unknown visible causes) I just found that 3 also have crooked tails, although these are not as bad as Bubby. They are about 2 or 3 months old now, and I guess I wasn't paying good enough attention. Really, you don't notice unless you are looking down on them, and they seem to be swimming ok. I'm wondering if maybe whatever she died from has been inherited into her offspring, or maybe they were just weak from the start. I'm also kinda concerned because these are balloon mollies, and some of her offspring look like regular mollies. I have no other type of mollies in my tank, at the time I had one lonely male guppy who I did notice was trying to mate with my mollies. I know I probably should not let them suffer, but with me being an animal lover, and after what happened with another fry who, when I tried to do what was best, well, let's just say he did not die by my hands, well, that just crushed me thinking I was making him suffer worse. So, maybe I'll wait and see what happens after they grow some more. |
