Well, my poor Red male passed tonight.  His father was the only red guppy out of 6, which the rest were all blue.  I think he may have had Hexamita, but I'm not sure.  He was doing the shimmying thing like his uncle.  I treated the previous fish with Paragon (thanks to guppylog for saving previous entries).  I think I may have prematurely returned him to the community tank.  I returned him to quarrantine, and when I shined my flashlight in I noticed that he's gone.  No discolorations, no torn tails.

I did noticed tonight after work that he placed himself between the fry net and the side of the tank.  I've seen adults move in and out through there so I know he wasn't stuck but I moved the net out slightly to see if he would swim out and he struggled to keep his spot and his colors were greatly faded.  I immediately returned him to the quarrantine tank but it was too late.

Now I feel guilty returning him last night.  I'm a horrible mother.

Maggie, caring for animals is never easy. They can't tell us what is wrong. They also have an instinct for survival which includes hiding symptoms of illness so predators don't prey on them.

I could never count how many animals I have lost over the years through ignorance during the learning process but there are also many I have lost when treatment was commenced immediately and it just didn't work. That's not to mention the ones that had post mortems carried out by vets with still no diagnosis.

What I'm getting at is you can't possibly know what is wrong and how to treat it ALL the time. All you can do is try and you did that.

Cheers

You work hard doing what needs to be done. Your are learning all the time. "None of us is perfect." Maybe it was just that fish's time.

All the best!

This one was just a favorite of mine.  I remember when my little blue guy "Squirt" had this and before returning him to the community tank I had added a few new teenage fry.  When I added Squirt, Red Jr. was the first to swim over to him and they "hung out" for quite some time.  It's interesting watching certain males interact.  Some act like they are true "friends".
