I'm trying to find a good way to photograph my various aquariums..

So far I haven't been able to snap off any good pictures with the digital camera I have.  Have any of you had success in photographing your tanks?

The problems I encounter in photographing my tanks are:

Reflection of Flash:  A big glass tank is really good at reflecting flashes. If I turn the flash off I get blurred pictures even using a tripod.

Darkness:  When I do manage to get a picture that doesnt have a huge flash reflection in it the tank appears to be unnaturally dark.  My tank is very well lit yet it doesn't show on film.  Perhaps this is because of the black gravel and black background I'm using on it?

Blurred Pictures:  The only way I've found to address the two above problems is to turn off the flash on the camera.  This of course increases the time the shutter is open. However as we all know, fish don't sit still to be photographed.  The combined effects of the heavy plantings swaying in the flow of the water, the bubble wall that circulates water around the heater, and all the moving fish cause the entire picture to be blurred almost beyond recognition.

Can anyone tell me a way to overcome these problems so I can get decent pictures of my tank?

Hi everb,
I've had more success taking a short video clip and getting a still shot off that.

I totally gave up on using my SLR b/c whole rolls of film were coming back just a blurry mess.

The bit that gets me is that when I look at my tanks I see fish and plants etc. but when the camera looks it sees straight through to background furniture (I have no background on my tanks and most are setup with no wall behind them) as if the tank had no fish in it :(

Cheers

I may attempt to use my camcorder to film the tank then play that back onto the HDTV and try to snap shots from there...may still have the problem of reflection but perhaps I can angle the camera so its not as bad.  After I try that one I'll see how it goes and let you guys know.

Manual settings on the digital camera have failed so far.
