hello everyone my aquarium is usually in the temperature range of 74-78f. So to my question, what should the temperature of a all tropical fish aquarium be?

Re: temperature (none / 0) (#3)

Here are the temperatures I run in my various tanks.  They may not work for you and whatever fish you have but I havent had any problems with them yet.

37 Gallon community show tank: 76 degrees
10 Gallon fry tank: 82 degrees
10 Gallon grow out tank: 80 degrees
10 Gallon multi-purpose tank: 78-81 degrees

I'm moderately concerned that your tank temperature changes.  Mine all run at a stable temperature except for the multi-purpose tank which currently has a heater which is somewhat small for the tank size.  Be sure the heater you have is capable of handling the size tank that its in.

Josh, that is not a bad all-purpose temperature (none / 0) (#1)

range. Still you need to check the needs of your fish. That may be too warm for white clouds, paradise fish, neon tetras, livebearers of the Goodied group (if they were kept at those temperatures all year long), some few Corys or killifish. At the same time that range is too cold for cardinal tetras or discus.

Many fish will do ok there. Do a little checking by species. Your LFS should have a reference book you could do a quick check on a specific species.

They don't have even one reference book? That says a lot too. :(

All the best!
