Jan-24-04.  my dorm room mate brought his 10 gallon tank today and we fixed it up and bought 6 guppies, 3 males and 3 females, one male is a split tail, another is a leopard tailed looking one and the other is a snake/cobra? whatever that is called.  Their babies should look realy neat.

As far as my fry goes they are growing and venturing about more in the tank, they go to the bottom and scavange then swim around peeking in the plants.  Then they'll dart around like Satan is after them and rest at the surface.  I love watching their big bulgy eyes looking around for food and their tiny tails fanning out as they grow bigger.

If it's all yellow and got the spots.. (none / 0) (#3)
by Angelee on Tue Jan 27, 2004 at 10:34:25 AM PST

The male is called a yellow or golden cobra.(Depending on what the breeders decided to call them this year)  The king cobras are the green ones that have the green spots or striped bodies with generally have yellow and black spotted tails (see my fish Julius at Imagestation, he's a green cobra.)  I also have a gold, I may post him, too but I wanted to make sure he was full grown before I did that.  Be careful how many you start your tank with too, if the bacteria colonies aren't established it will kill your fish.  (Most of the deaths of newly aquired fish are killed by new tank syndrome).

You didn't cycle the tank? (none / 0) (#1)
by guppygirl on Sun Jan 25, 2004 at 05:03:01 AM PST

Did you use any water from your other to set it up? Any gravel or filter material?

Make sure you get a test kit and are ready to do plenty of water changes until the tank cycles.

Test for ammonia and nitrite daily. Maybe add some "quick start" stuff from your LFS.
It will help speed up the cycling process.

Adding more than three fish in an uncycled tank will spike the ammonia since the nitrogen cycle has not been established.

Search the site for more information.

Good Luck,

he had everything fixed and stuff, he had had fish in it but gave them away so he could bring the tank up here so we could breed guppies. and I think I killed all the new ones cause put some stuff in it that took out chlorine, or maybe the temp wasn't high enough. but they all died, even the little baby chinese algae eater. :(
