Scott,

I have been thinking about this voting for topics that should or should not be posted on the front page and have a question(s).

Instead of voting, can we set up certain sections for breeding, care etc... and have it designated to post there instead of voting to be put on the front page? So when someone logs in, they can go to whatever section they care to read about and skip all the other postings?

It gets discouraging at times when you have a question and hope that someone will vote yes for it. I realize that a lot of these posts are repeatitive and all about "Is my guppy pregnant", but a new person coming aboard may think this is way too much work to get a question answered and go else where.  Besides, it think if we had specific sections and everyone saw what questions were previously asked, they might not ask the same questions, over and over again.

Too stupid??  Just a thought

Got a question Scott (none / 0) (#11)
by GuppyAdict on Tue Jan 27, 2004 at 11:21:11 AM PST

I've noticed that on the bottom of each question it tells you how many topical reponses and editorial responses.

Why don't we see those editorial reponses?  What is that for?

I hope you don't get too upset with me for asking so much, but do you think we can get an edit option? Just so that we can correct our own postings?

I have on ocassion typed up my question and then accidently in my rush hit post and wanted to go back and make corrections or I've wanted to add to my postings.  Do you think that would be possible?

Nope - it's a bad idea. (none / 0) (#7)

Here's why:

If people can do that, they could say something really offensive, you (or I) would reply to them, and then they could go back and 'edit' their post to make us look like the bad guy. This is a really bad idea.

Use the preview button - that's what it's there for. :-)

Your right! (none / 0) (#9)

I really never thought about it that way. Ok, I will be better about doing a preview and not hit post until I do.  Thanks for at least listening.  =-)

This is a good question (none / 0) (#1)

And, that's why we have the Diary section - you can post anything you want in the diary section, as long as it's not abusive.

We do have sections - If we need other sections, or catigories, please let me know - I'll add just about anything. :-)

Are you asking for an index GA? (5.00 / 1) (#2)
by unclescott on Thu Jan 22, 2004 at 01:35:00 PM PST

Scott until you suggested going by sections, the only search hits I had had were a bunch of hits on was pregnant and about half the possible references on Camallanus.

Would it clutter the page or would a box steering visitors to search by those general categories be useful?

You're suggesting having people type in Foods, Ask Guppylog, Disease and the other topics we are supposed to identify when submitting a Log? Hey they're working now?!

Is it only my retarded computer (which never saw the blinking "Please click on the Aquarank button once a day!" much less the button) which can't pick up a specific item from the search engine?

Son of a gun! Search is picking up references today. That's the first time since joining the list!

Well... never mind. Maybe the exorcism of the computer worked.

Yeah, something like that. (5.00 / 1) (#4)
by GuppyAdict on Thu Jan 22, 2004 at 01:54:30 PM PST

Maybe I'm not wording my question correctly.

Say I log into guppylog and the first thing I see is catagories like Breeding, Health, etc and then I would click on breeding and in there I would see all the postings from members that have just breeding questions.

Does that make sense?

Can we do something like that??

Hey Scott, (none / 0) (#10)

Would it be possible to add a tab at the top for
"Breeding/Pregnancy/Fry?" or,  "Welcome Newcomers! FAQ" Something like that?

Then we could group similar questions together, and newbies would automatically feel that they are not alone in their quandry.

I think the "Ask Guppylog" is too broad of a header.
It seems to me that every question would qualify.

It seems that that's where our Front Page gets jammed up with repeats or similar articles/questions.

Just a thought.
