I called up my friend(a fish expert) last night and asked her some guppy having fry questions. One was about that dark spot near their tail,my friend said that when the females were about to drop it turns golden. Is that true????????

My female had her fry!(finally)I got 8 and put them in my breeder.(acouple days ago we let Violette(my female)out of the breeder and ito the 10 gal.)I was wondering if I could put them in an empty 1 gallon,or would it be too cold?

What is the temperature of your tank? Also (none / 0) (#5)

what is the room temperature where you would put the fry tank?

You might just put a dry aquarium thermometer where that tank would sit. If it is significantly cooler than the tank, I wouldn't.

I know here, the brutally cold weather caused me to tweek up the fishroom temperatures. There are still drafty corners I wouldn't dare put livebearers! :)

That is not true (none / 0) (#1)

When your female is ready to drop her fry, the black gravid spot will get darker and get closer to her opening.

The black spot that you are seeing are the eyes of the fry getting ready to drop.  If they are turning a golden color, I would say that there is something wrong with your fry.

There are eggs laid by annual killifish (none / 0) (#3)

which will develop a golden ring when they are ready to hatch after 2-8 months. There may be some other eggs that do that.

Suppose you might get a golden ring with gold guppies. ;)
