See inside for more thoughts on the site, and 'stuff'.

| Well, it seems that 8 is too high a voting queue threshold, for the moment. I've adjusted it from 3% to 2.5% (which at the moment is '6' if you wanted to know the #), and posted the two stories that had made it to 7 manually. Let's see how this works for a while. Also, note that you can vote something to the section rather than the front page, if you want to. This is the method I like to use when I think a question is good, but think the formating for the log entry was bad, or the quesiton has been asked several times before. I always encourage people to use the site's search feature (look at the menu box... There's a shiney green link there... :-) ) when I do this, so that they know it's not that we didn't like their question or something. The article on green water is an excellent example - we've had that discussion here, and we can certainly have it again, but I suspect that the person who submitted the article didn't search the site, first. This isn't a huge deal, and thus I didn't abstain or vote to kill the story. This brings up another good point - what do we use the 0 and -1 votes for? Well, I try to abstain from anything where I have a conflict of interest (a 'what's the best site on the web for guppy info' article I would abstain from, for example) or I feel I cannot be objective about the article. the -1 vote is for clearing out the trash. Trash, in this sense includes any one line postings ("where can I get X" is a bad story submission) and also attempts at trolling (which I WILL delete when I see them) etc. Anyone who's played over at HUSI, K5, the Edge City Chronicle, etc (which are all Scoop sites, one of which I host (shameless plug)) will not be a stranger to any of this - it's all fairly obvious and simple stuff. :-) If it's NOT obvious and simple, don't freak - just ask questions, I'll be happy to answer them. :-) |
