So, right about this week, four years ago I launched this site. I couldn't believe it was that long, I really thought we'd have better content and editorial stuff going on by now. :-( Still, we do have a hard core group of volunteers who make this place what it is, the top five of which (in my book anyway) are Uncle Scott, Miskarial, guppygirl, maggie1270, and lomelindi. All have contributed much in one way or another in the last four years. Thanks you lot - I couldn't have made this place what it is without you.

I've been thinking about Scott's observation that the content of GL is pretty much the same as it was. In many ways he is right, I've got to reluctantly agree. Many of the questions asked on the current "everything" page or three, Google just on the Guppylog search for 50 to several 100 hits. There are even quite a few comments on what GL is doing and where it is going. In some ways we are getting better at answering them.

As all of you probably know by now the world has lost a great environmentalist. Steve Irwin brought not only his knowledge but his sense of humor into many homes with his television show about his beloved crocs.

Many of you have found us via Aquarank, or other fish related websites. Please, take a moment, and click on the buttons (to your left, or below if you have clicked on the read more link) once a day, to ensure that Guppylog is given the broadest possible exposure so that others who need our help can find us, too.

Livebearers, the Bulletin of the American Livebearer Association, number 189, arrived a few days ago. They ran an article by Fred Poeser and Michael Kempkes. Both work at universities and have access to collections of South American fishes. Both men have speculated upon the status of the Endler's livebearer as a species separate from guppies. A couple of others, who have considered describing the Endler's livebearer, they felt, seem to have abandoned the project.

Guppies and Copper Cure

Hi everyone,
I'm new to this site so bear with me if I'm redundant or sound like a newcomer. I am.
I've kept guppies for YEARS and was using Copper Cure to rid my tanks of snails. I noticed after using this product along with salt my guppies have been very, very healthy and living long lives with lot's of deliveries. Perhaps a coincidence but my fish are never diseased. Oh, one other thing-they seem to love anacharis.

On a few occasions here at GL we have discussed the use of Potassium Permanganate (pp) for the treatment of sick fish. A guy at the reef newsgroup I visited has just provided us with a whole heap of info on his own experiments so I asked his permission to pass it on to you all as his experiments were with freshwater fish.

I have a question about an infection that my platy might have. There are white strings coming out of my platy, they look like worms. When I disturb the water to clean it, small white things float up. I know that is it not waste material because the small white strings floating around are wiggling around. Its pretty gross.

On setting up a new tank and rambling thoughts on the past.
It's been 25 years since I left this hobby and now with some leisure time and some extra cash, once more I'm taking it up as an old pleasure revisited.
Perhaps with advanced age and wisdom I can care for the little pretties with more consideration than I was capable of providing in my hay days.
