Hey New Guppy Momma! (none / 0) (#4)
by unclescott on Wed Feb 13, 2008 at 11:05:51 AM PST

Thank you for the clarion call to come out of our winter lairs. I was surprised by your observation about the bloodfins beating up on the smaller tetras. Guess we can't be too careful looking for companions. There are probably dozens or hundreds of aquarium communities where the fish from one community would not be good matches in another community. That certainly is true of our guppies if we want them to have great tails.

With the decline in traffic here, more time has been given to the Beginners' forum on the AKA site. In fact I guess I am the AKA beginners' committee until reinforcements are brought in.

You guys (using the term amazingly loosely) on Guppylog are very important to me though. I'll try and start more threads here. Really glad if that auction thing is of use to you. One always wonders if anything put up here or elsewhere is of any value to people.

If someone else hears of another event, please feel free to mention it. Also there are several guppy clubs not hosting major shows this year. That doesn't mean that local meetings would not be a great experience to a visitor. ;)

While walking the schnoodle I took quite a pratfall on the icy sidewalk. (Never put in a backyard fence. We need the exercise and I worry about coyotes at night bushwhacking the 22 pound pooch.) X-rays of the shoulder and arm showed no broken bones. But it has been a couple of months, until very recently, that I felt limber enough to do much tank maintenance. And I'm lazy enough without excuses to avoid lifting... So much for New Year's Resolutions. ;)

But it is nice to be back in a couple of ways.

One reason I'm glad the Beast is goinf to be located next to the front door. Siphon in tank and out the door via the garden hose into my soon to be built flower beds.

Sorry to hear you've been laid up for a while. I bet the fish are excited about clean water.

Do you happen to have a link available to the "new site? I'd be happy to "lend a helping hand".

Well Dinners' almost ready (spaghetti tonight) so I gotta go feed my Peeps. See ya later.

Putting the Beast conveniently near the door, (none / 0) (#6)

so long as drafts are not a big issue, is so wise! And your garden will thank you.

Back when I was young and invincible, we bought this place. The first year the irises already here had about 10 blooms. I discovered that they are really marsh plants (Doah! Again!) and lugged change out water to them. [There may be a hose on a sump pump run from a 32-gallon barrel this year.] The second year here those watered irises gave us 55 blooms.

And once again the key ingredient is, sigh, CHANGE THE WATER MORE. ;)

Sisyphus "ain't got nothing" on aquarists. :)
