I have a betta in my tank with dropsy, but I don't have the heart to put him down. I have yet to remove him, which I know isn't proper but he still is very active and he hasn't infected anyone. Hope your guppy does okay:)

that, but you don't know it yet. I would agree though that sometimes it may not make a huge amount of difference, because the microbes in the Betta are already in the tank. They are more numerous now for the infection of the Betta.

And, though it is distasteful to consider, what may happen when the Betta dies? One of the most effective ways of infecting other fish is to have them nibbling on the body of the deceased. So even if it is just to put him in a bowl, do remove him before too long. :)
